Lea-Lina Oppermann, Germany

Lea-Lina Oppermann, born in 1998 in Berlin, studied speech arts and communication education in Stuttgart. Since childhood, Lea-Lina has been an enthusiastic reader. Her favorite authors include, among others, Walter Moers and Markus Zusak. Since the release of her debut novel Was wir dachten, was wir taten (What we thought we were doing) in 2017, she has been considered a promising new voice in German youth literature.

In this dramatically sophisticated and linguistically precise novel, reminiscent of Janne Teller's Nichts (Nothing) and Jesper Wung-Sung's Opfer (Victim), the young author raises existential questions that cannot be dismissed.
