Francisco Montaña Ibáñez, born 1966 in Bogotá, is one of the most prestigious youth book authors of Colombia. He studied screenplay at the Film College in Moscow as well as literature, languages and art history at the National University of Colombia in Bogotá. He is now a lecturer in the fields of film, television, theater and architecture.

Since 2001 he has published ten novels and stories for young readers. Using the example of the weakest members of society, he draws an uncrimped, unsentimental picture of the shadows of the social and political reality of Colombia. The protagonists are robbed of their childhood and youth, are torn from the security of their families, experience violence, civil war, poverty or child labor. Francisco Montaña Ibáñez writes literally sophisticated and understands how to portray childlike experiences and feelings in these life-worlds.
