Iwona Chmielewska, born in 1960, studied graphics at the Copernicus University in Toruń , Poland, where she still lives and teaches book art. Her picture books brought her numerous international prizes, including the Bologna Ragazzi Award 2011. Her latest picture book "Pamietnik Blumki", a picture book about the famous orphanage of Janusz Korczak, was awarded the " Book of the Year "of the Polish IBBY section. To date, the illustrator has published more than 20 picture books.

Iwona Chmielewska works with a variety of art historical and stylistic bonds and creates aesthetically appealing, cleverly composed paper and photocollagen. Her illustrations have been exhibited at exhibitions in Seoul, Bologna, Rome, Bratislava, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Munich, Ljubljana and Warsaw.
