Anete Melece, Latvia

Anete Melece, born 1983 in Latvia, studied visual communication at the Latvian Academy of Art in Riga as well as design with a focus on animation at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. She currently lives in Zurich, illustrating children's books, drawing comics and creating internationally acclaimed animated films. Her short film "The Kiosk" from 2013 was shown at festivals worldwide and won the "Swiss Film Award" for the best animated film in Zurich and the prize for the best Latvian film at the "International Short Film Festival" in Riga.

Six years later Anete Melece developed a picture book from her animated film: In "The Kiosk" she tells the story of Olga, a kiosk lady who dreams of sunsets by the sea.

You can also dream and fantasize wonderfully with the "Cloud Book": The poems of the poet Juris Kronberg, illustrated by Anete Melece, inspire you to look up into the blue and white sky with a clear view.

With "Hello, Whale!" she returns to the city, more precisely to Riga, where a little girl teaches her grumpy grandfather the friendly greeting.

Anete Melece will be moderated by Lisa Thomasch, who works as a literary scholar.
