Benjamin Tienti, born 1981 in Esslingen, worked as an educator in residential groups and schools and published short stories in punk magazines under a pseudonym. He currently lives in Berlin, teaches at a school in Neukölln and writes novels. In 2018 Benjamin Tienti was awarded the German-French Youth Literature Prize for his children's book debut "Salon Salami"; One year later he published his second children's novel with "On the way with rabbits".
The award jury justified its decision by saying that he "treats all his characters with great respect - and they usually treat each other as well with great respect". Benjamin Tienti writes from the perspective of his young (anti)heroes in Berlin and "on the road" - and in doing so, he accomplishes the art of negotiating difficult issues such as divorce, migration or neglect in a forceful and comprehensible way, while at the same time being incredibly original and funny.
Benjamin Tienti will be moderated by Tina Rausch, literary educator and literary scholar.
