Workshop Report and Talk in Spanish
Ximo Abadía: Boom. La Guerra de los Colores
Boom. La guerra de los colores. (Engl.: Boom. The war of the colours)
Penguin Random House 2020
Two people are born in two neighbouring villages. One of them likes the colour green, the other the colour red. Both are downright obsessed with their own favourite colour. The one wants everything to be green, the other wants everything red. Each of the villages become riled up with the help of lies. Their conflict escalates. Once the people become exhausted and tired of the matter, they leave their villages. The two tyrants are left behind and, in the end, engage in mutual self-destruction. What remains is a world without colours. “Boom. La guerra de los colores” is a tale about lust for power, manipulation, propaganda, egomania, totalitarianism and force as a means to achieving personal interests – all in a visual manner that children can easily understand. As Ximo Abadía’s book is not yet translated into German, excerpts of a translation of this children’s book are being made available for this festival.
On the basis of his picture books, e.g. “Boom” and “Lo que no le gusta a la guerra”, Ximo Abadía will talk with the students about his work as an illustrator and the art of conveying social and political themes in pictures.
