Anja Reumschüssel, Germany

Anja Reumschüssel was born in 1983 in Dresden and grew up there and in Munich. Today she lives in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. She studied media journalism, sociology and theology, and then attended the Henri-Nannen-School, one of the best schools of journalism in Germany. Anja Reumschüssel herself says that she writes about “things that the world does not need: social injustice, gender inequality, climate change.” She has frequently been awarded prizes for her reporting, which has appeared in both print and online media. Since 2018 she has published three non-fiction books for young adults and one book for children.

Anja Reumschüssel’s first youth book “Über den Dächern von Jersualem” (engl: Above the roofs of Jerusalem) was planned as a non-fiction book to be published on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. During the writing process she realised that a fictional work would be better suited to her young readers. The novel, in which she captured her impressions and observations during a several months-long stay in Israel, retells the complex Israel-Palestinian history in the 20th and 21st century from the perspectives of an Israeli and a Palestinian family whose children have bonded in a fragile friendship. The novel has garnered numerous accolades, including the “Nobel Prize of Hope” in 2025. It was nominated for the 2024 German Children’s Literature Award and has been translated into five languages.

The events with Anja Reumschüssel will be moderated by Anna Magdalena Hofer.
